Designated as the last alternate route in North Carolina, NC 226A has over 190 curves (some say over 200) in a 12-mile loop. The Switzerland Inn, featuring the Diamondback Motorcycle Lodge and Chalet Restaurant featuring two patio bars, is the closest accommodation to Mt. Mitchell.

The Diamondback Lodge at Switzerland Inn is an ideal base camp for your motorcycle or sportscar group. The Lodge, featuring eight separate rooms, all connected to a central lobby, is the perfect destination for motorcyclist or sportscar enthusiasts traveling the mountain roads near Spruce Pine and the winding routes of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Each room has one double bed, flat screen tv, private bath, and use of all Switzerland Inn amenities.

You won’t need air conditioning; the average temperature at the peak of NC 226A is about 12 degrees cooler than the surrounding foothills of NC. Covered motorcycle parking adjoins the Diamondback Motorcycle Lodge.
